White flowers are the obvious choice for dark spaces — and for good reason. White roses, lisianthus and hydrangeas reflect whatever light is available and create an instant sense of brightness.

But do not overlook warm yellows and corals. Ranunculus in a warm peach tone and bright yellow tulips can add a pop of warmth that makes a dim room feel cosy rather than gloomy.

Our top tip: pair lighter blooms with a reflective vessel — a glass vase or a mirrored tray beneath the arrangement bounces light around and doubles the visual impact.
